Haven V Barrow Match Preview

The final day of the 2017 Championship 1 Campaign serves    up what is without doubt the game of the Season as Whitehaven go up against Barrow in this Cumbrian Derby .

This Derby however has more than just local Bragging rights at Stake .Barrow currently lie second in the table ahead on points difference Haven , which makes the game a winner takes all for the important second place in the Final league table .

After drawing at North Wales last Sunday the Haven Squad will be determined  to win this one  while Barrow coach Paul Crarey is keen to hang on to second place in the table, but knows Haven will pose a different challenge to Oxford who were swept aside 80-10 on Saturday by the Raiders.

He said: “We’re all raring to go………….. We beat them at Craven Park in a pre-season friendly and they’ll be smarting from that. But they’ve improved immensely and they’ve got real quality across the board.”

“I think it’s going to be quite a game between two sides who have identical records on results,” he said.

Both clubs know that they face trips to Canada to take on League One leaders Toronto Wolfpack who have not dropped a point all season.

Coach Carl Forster   admitted his side were fortunate to get a point out of their draw at North Wales to keep their unbeaten run going and on to 12 games.

He said: “The important thing is that we haven’t been at our best in some of the recent games – notably North Wales, Keighley and York – yet have won them all, apart from Sunday when we brought back a point.

“It’s always a sign of a good team when you can grind out results even when you are not playing particularly well. But Sunday will be the biggest test since we played Toronto and we will need to be at our best.”

The outcome will also determine which of the Cumbrian rivals hosts the other in the eights programme which starts in a fortnight’s time.

Looking back over the last 8 League encounters between the two clubs its  four wins each . Haven having done the double over Barrow in 2014 and 2013 while Barrow won home and away in 2012 and 2010 .
