Whitehaven 34 Newcastle Thunder 20

Haven had to dig deep in the final quarter of this clash, to finally prevail over a determined Newcastle Thunder side .

Haven looked good in the first quarter of this game and when Elliott Miller went over for a try on his 100th Pro game  it was 6 nil to Haven and they looked as though they could go on and  dominate the game . However the Thunder had other ideas as they levelled the score just 4 minutes later through winger Blair  : and that set the tone for the  rest of the game . Jordan Burns and Scott McAvoy touched down but Thunder hit back with a try through ex Haven Player Rhys Clarke  to make the half time score Haven 14 Thunder 12 .

The second half saw the visitors  start well but it was Haven who extended their lead with a converted Scott McAvoy Try to lead 20  to 12

On the hour however the Haven lead looked shaky as Thunder winger Blair secured his brace with an interception try converted by Hardcastle and when the half-back was presented with a long range penalty effort to square up the scores at 20 all .

Haven were looking vulnerable at this point and the outcome of the game was in the balance , However a great  run by Player Coach  Carl Foster saw him score and put  Haven  back ahead with 12  minutes remaining , before a penalty soon after re-established an eight point cushion over Thunder.

The game was over with 5 minutes remaining when Glenn Riley  scored by the post and with the extras added Haven  were home by 34 points to 20 .
